The Brisbane Skyneedle was originally built for World Expo 88 as a temporary landmark called "Night Companion". After the Expo, it was almost sent to Tokyo Disneyland but was purchased by Brisbane hairdresser Stefan Ackerie and moved to his South Brisbane headquarters, where it remains today. The 88-meter sculpture was designed to be a prominent feature of the Expo site, featuring a powerful laser searchlight that lit up the night sky. (Source: Wikipedia)
