Collection: Lota Collection

Lota is a quiet bayside suburb of Brisbane with a history closely connected to its coastal setting and transport links. Originally inhabited by Indigenous Australians, the area was part of the traditional lands around Moreton Bay and was valued for its natural resources and access to waterways. 1 European settlement began in the mid-19th century, with land used for farming and small-scale industry, but development remained limited until the arrival of the Cleveland railway line in 1889, which improved access to Brisbane and encouraged residential growth. 2 The suburb of Lota developed alongside neighbouring Manly, gradually becoming a small seaside community known for its relaxed lifestyle, fishing, and boating activities. Over time, Lota evolved into a mainly residential suburb, while still retaining its connection to the bay through parks, foreshores, and recreational spaces that reflect its historical roots as a coastal settlement.
