Collection: City Hall Brisbane
Brisbane City Hall, located in King George Square in the CBD, is one of the city’s most important heritage and civic landmarks. Construction began in 1920 and the building was officially opened on 8 April 1930 after a decade of work, reflecting Brisbane’s growth and ambition during the early twentieth century 1&2. Designed by architects Hall and Prentice in a classical style inspired by European architecture, the building features a prominent clock tower and grand public spaces, becoming the seat of the Brisbane City Council and a centre for civic, cultural, and social events 1&3. Often referred to as the “People’s Place,” City Hall has played a central role in community life for nearly a century and remains a defining symbol of Brisbane’s identity 3.
