Collection: Stones Corner Hotel : Stones Corner

The Stones Corner Hotel, one of Brisbane’s historic suburban hotels, has its origins in the late 19th century during the early development of the Stones Corner area. The site was originally owned by James Stone, who in 1875 established a small refreshment stop for travellers at the busy junction of Logan and Old Cleveland Roads, giving the locality its name. 1&2 After Stone sold the land in 1887, a licensed two‑storey hotel known as the Junction Hotel was built on the site and opened in 1888, marking the beginning of the present-day Stones Corner Hotel. 2&3 The hotel quickly became a focal point for the growing community, particularly as transport links such as tram services and roads increased traffic through the area in the early 20th century. 2 Over time, the building became closely associated with the suburb itself and eventually adopted the name Stones Corner Hotel. 2 Throughout the 20th century, the hotel remained a central social and commercial hub, undergoing renovations while retaining its heritage character. Today, it continues to operate as a prominent landmark, reflecting its origins as one of Brisbane’s early roadside hotels and its long-standing role in the development of the Stones Corner precinct. 4
