Coorparoo Suburb

Coorparoo is an inner Brisbane suburb with a history that reflects both Indigenous heritage and later urban development. Before European settlement, the Coorparoo area was known to the local Yuggera Aboriginal people as Kulpurum (or Koolpuroom). Early surveyors also recorded the area's original name as Bulimba and briefly referred to it as Four Mile Camp before the modern name was adopted in 1875, a word likely derived from an Aboriginal term for Norman Creek.

Following European settlement in the mid-19th century, the area developed from farmland into a residential suburb, with land subdivisions, transport links such as bridges and tramways, and community institutions driving its growth.
