Queen Alexandra Home in Brisbane is a heritage-listed building that reflects the city’s social and architectural history. Originally constructed in 1886 as a private residence known as Hatherton for businessman Reuben Nicklin, the property was later acquired by the Methodist Church in 1911 and converted into the Queen Alexandra Home for Children, providing care for disadvantaged and orphaned children 12. An additional wing was added in 1919 to expand its capacity, and the home operated in this role until 1960, after which the building was used for education and community purposes 13. Today, it remains an important heritage site, illustrating both late nineteenth-century residential design and the evolution of welfare institutions in Brisbane 1.
