The Annerley junction hotel has been operating since 1866, and there have been multiple hotels at the location.The junction is where Ipswich Road, Annerley Road, and Fanny Street meet.
History
- The first permanent structure at the junction was a coach and rest stop in 1866.
- John Neil bought the hotel in 1869 from William Murphy.
- Neil also ran a blacksmithy next to the hotel.
- A painting of the hotel by Charles Gordon Sebastian shows it owned by J. Neil.
- There have been three hotels on the junction since the first one opened.
Location
- The junction has always been busy.
- The area was originally used for dairy farms.
- One of the first residential subdivisions was the "St Kilda Estate".
Additional information
- A sketch of the hotel by C. Hurst in 1875 was donated by the Neil family to the John Oxley Library in 1994.
- The junction of Annerley Road, Fanny Street, and Ipswich Road has been a busy junction for almost 160 years.
