Collection: The Rocklea Hotel: Rocklea
The Rocklea Hotel is one of Brisbane’s longstanding suburban pubs, with origins dating back to 1874 when it began as the Rocky Water Holes Hotel in a small rural settlement south of the city. Following the arrival of the railway and the renaming of the area to Rocklea in 1884, the hotel adopted its current name in 1885. The present two-storey building, constructed around 1892, replaced the earlier structure and became a central social hub for the local community. Over time, the hotel has evolved through various additions and renovations, yet it continues to reflect its important role in the social and cultural life of Brisbane’s southside.
