Collection: The Morrison Hotel: Woolloongabba

The Morrison Hotel, constructed in 1927, is the latest in a succession of hotels established on the site, including the earlier Duke of Cornwall and Britannia Hotels. Built during Brisbane’s interwar building boom, the current brick structure reflects the transformation of Woolloongabba into a busy inner-city suburb. Its location near rail yards, industry, and major transport routes contributed to its popularity as a meeting place for workers and locals. Over time, the hotel has remained an important social venue, evolving with the surrounding area while retaining its historic character and community significance.
